Rimu Rimu.
Complicity.
RIMU - THE SAGA Many moons ago.... In a small timber town located in the south Waikato, 4 young men formed a punk/new wave outfit called ROOM 101, influenced by The Clash, Bauhaus & the Cure. The young men were without doubt the only "alternative" band in the land of AM radio supremacy. But never the less, they managed to scale the grand heights of support act to the Shetland Ponies at the local A&P show... Having achieved such massive success there was only one thing to do, move to the big smoke of Palmerston North. Student radio loved the pine tree boys , with many rad mass top tens & numerous gigs. They lost a guitarist and gained a sampler (all the rage at the time) and a new moniker...Damask. Found better drugs and broarder influences, Sonic Youth , Bailter Space, Butthole Surfers etc...Did a north island tour, got great reviews...and split up... On to Auckland a year or so later they reform as a three piece, change name to Feudant, start to play regular gigs, get BFM airplay and then split up again... Years later after many drunken sessions of reminiscing the boys decide it would be a laugh to have a jam , they love it, and this time they swear they're never gonna stop. Four Name changes , numerous gigs, countless lost picks and broken sticks, RIMU Present to you COMPLICITY......

The Shrugs The Shrugs.
An Awkward Silence.
The Shrugs have never won any band competition or received any public funding, despite having attempted both. They have never been on TV, have never played at a major sporting event or at the opening of a furniture store, and have not supported anyone bigger than the Datsuns. Despite having had some close encounters with the Auckland bullshit machine, the Shrugs have ultimately failed to attract any media 'buzz'. However, they have been regularly playlisted on the b-net stations. The most common reaction from promoters after they book the Shrugs and then see them play is surprise.

Bored Gordon Bored Gordon.
Lie If You Have To.

Bored Gordon is among a growing list of bands in New Zealand that are subscribing to the No.8 wire home computer approach in producing their music. Sure we may not be able to do it as well as some of the recording wizards around, but with every new recording we gain more knowledge and discover new tricks to getting the sound we hear in our heads onto CD. Plus when you are not paying someone $60-$120 an hour you can relax and take your time with things. This also results in us being able to buy more beer to bribe those radio and TV programmers out there!

Dragstrip Dragstrip.
The Holy Loner And The Crystal Drifter.

The music of Dragstrip has been described variously as “New Zealand horror stories” and “beat-poetry”. Dragstrip himself says, “I enjoy creating images that are at once familiar and discomforting”. This can be seen in the song ‘the Eugenicist’ in which Dragstrip juxtaposes a young couple riding their bicycles through the Christchurch springtime with a miscarriage and a misanthrope. Dragstrip released his debut ep, "the Holy Loner and the Crystal Drifter", in March. He say's of the record that it is "5 slices of the best 'Hoodoo Folk' this side of anywhere". Of the dense, multi-layered production he say's "If I knew when I started the thing what I know now, I don't think I would have been quite so ambitious, that said though, I wouldn't go back and change a thing".
